Headstones

David Dew Funeral Services offers a monumental service.

We design, supply and install headstones and plaques in all cemeteries in the Wairarapa.  We are also able to add additional lettering, as well as cleaning, painting and restoring existing headstones.  See examples of our monumental work.  As well as memorial stones in cemeteries, David Dew Funeral Services can arrange for personal and civic plaques to be erected.

For a personal meeting with you to discuss your monumental requirements and quotes contact David Dew Funeral Services.

This headstone had a literal ‘facelift’. The family wanted a new design, and so the original inscription was polished off the surface of the granite, taking only 3mm off the original thickness of granite. A new start was made to the design, using the existing stone.

McGOwan after3.jpg This 'recumbent desk' plaque was commissioned in 2009 as an historic headstone marking this young boys resting place.  The design is 'reverse blasted' meaning that everything but the wording is sandblasted (the opposite to the usual process).  There is no need to paint the lettering (as they are the shiny granite), and therefore it will never need repainting.

The Jamieson headstone is an example of  a 'black supreme' granite headstone with a 'wave top'.  At its tallest point it stands 800mm high.

This plaque is the standard size (360 x 230 x 16mm) for the cherry tree ashes plots at Riverside Cemetery.  The 'black supreme' plaque has been well designed with thought, allowing for a second inscription to be added at a later date.  The wording on the plaque is gilded.

BEFORE  AFTER

This headstone required re-lettering to add the second inscription, and repainting.  Older headstones were inscribed using hand cut lettering.  These days new headstones are inscribed using computer cut templates.  Matching the lettering of older headstones is still possible using the old hand cutting technique.

 Dear David and team
A small token to say thank you for everything you have done to make my difficult tasks easy for me. Your sincere compassion, your help and tender care of Fred and towards me is deeply appreciated. Mere words are inadequate to express the depth of my feelings, I can only say once again -
Thank you.
Margaret
